Refractive Surgery
A refractive error is a very common eye disorder. It occurs when the eye cannot clearly focus on images. The result of refractive errors is blurred vision, which sometimes is so severe that it causes visual impairment.
The three most common refractive errors are :
- Myopia (nearsightedness) : difficulty in seeing distant objects clearly
- Hyperopia (farsightedness) : difficulty in seeing close objects clearly
- Astigmatism : distorted vision resulting from an irregularly curved cornea, the clear covering of the eyeball.
Catract
Catracts are a very common eye condition. Catract in old age are called (senile cataract), in children (congenital catract) and Adolescents (Developmental cataract). When the lens inside the eye gradually changes and becomes less transparent (clear), misty, or cloudy, it is said to have a catract.
Cornea
A cornea transplant is an operation used to remove all or part of a damaged cornea and replace it with healthy cornea tissue from the eye of a suitable donor.
A cornea transplant is often referred to as a keratoplasty. It can be used to improve sight, relieve pain in a damaged or diseased eye, and treat emergencies such as severe infection or a damaged cornea surface (perforated cornea).
The latest techniques involve suture less corneal transplant techniques like DALK- Deep Anterior Lamellar Keratoplasty and DSEK- Desemets Stripping Endothelial Keratoplasty.
Glaucoma
Glaucoma is a complicated disease in which damage to the optic nerve leads to progressive, irreversible vision loss. This condition is the second leading cause of blindness worldwide. There are typically no early warning signs or painful symptoms of open-angle glaucoma. It develops slowly and sometimes without noticeable sight loss for many years.
By the time a patient is aware of vision loss, the disease is usually quite advanced. Without proper treatment, glaucoma can lead to blindness. The good news is that with regular eye exams, early detection, and treatment, you can preserve your vision.
Vitreo Retina as Retina
The retina is an extension of the brain. It forms the interior lining of the eye and contains millions of light-sensitive nerve endings. The light rays that enter the eye pass though the cornea, pupil, lens, and vitreous ultimately focusing on the retina. The retina then perceives the light and transmits nerve impulses through the optic nerve to the brain, where a visual image is created.
Vitreous is a clear, gel-like substance that fills the cavity between the lens and the retina.
Contact Lens
Contact lenses correct refractive errors such as myopia (nearsightedness) and hyperopia (farsightedness). Today more and more people have switched to ‘contacts’ as they are popularly known and easier to use than spectacles. They also enhance facial looks.
Contact lenses are closer to natural sight than eyeglasses. They move with your eye and correct the refractive error closer to the eye to allow for a more natural field of vision. They don’t get in the way of your line of sight, like glasses can.
Paediatric
Pediatric Ophthalmology is a sub-speciality of ophthalmology dealing with problems common to, or seen exclusively in children.
If your child is having difficulty with a vision screening exam or has problems reading or learning, or needs surgery or medical treatment for an illness affecting the eyes.
Oculoplasty
Oculoplasty surgery, also known as Eye Plastic Surgery, deals with the medical and surgical management of deformities and abnormalities of the eyelids, lacrimal (tear) system, orbit (bony socket) and the adjacent face.
The eyelids and surrounding areas are extremely complex and delicate structures that are vital to the preservation of sight and are important features of a normal facial appearance. Since surgery in this area can affect one’s ability to see, oculoplastic surgeons are uniquely qualified to perform this delicate surgery and to provide expertise the eye needs.
Comprehensive Eye checkup for Diabetics & Hypertension
In people with diabetes, high blood sugar damages the walls of the small blood vessels in the eye, altering their structure and function. These vessels may thicken, leak, develop clots, close off, or grow balloon-like defects called microaneurysms.
Treatment for diabetic retinopathy should involve both a medical doctor and an ophthalmologist. Your medical doctor can help you better control blood sugar and can treat other complications of diabetes that may worsen diabetic retinopathy, such as impaired kidney or heart function.
Computer Vision Syndrome
This condition describes a group of eye and vision-related problems that result from prolonged computer use. Many individuals experience eye discomfort and vision problems when viewing a computer screen for extended periods. The level of discomfort appears to increase with the amount of computer use.
